Fall into Telluride!2 min read time

With winter bearing down on most of us, I thought I would take us back to a slightly warmer time, Fall! With winter bearing down on most of us, I thought I would take us back to a slightly warmer time, Fall! For our last camping trip this year my buddy and I decided to camp in Gunnison and head through Telluride in search of some fall color. Fall among the aspens of Colorado is one of the most beautiful sites you can witness. Tall golden aspens line the towering mountains along the road, as the mountains begin to prepare for the winter onslaught. The scene goes on for days if you hit the right area at the right time and we hit Telluride at the peak of Fall. Highway 550, also named the Million Dollar Highway, is a drive everyone can and should do to experience Fall in Colorado. The road starts in Durango, Colorado takes you over countless mountain passes and through Silverton, Ouray, Ridgeway and eventually back through Telluride. On your way back from Telluride you will pass over Lizard Head Pass, which is where we found the most amazing of scenes.

Nestled right around a corner, is this beautiful pond surrounded by aspens and mountains. So peaceful and beautiful is the ride down Lizard Head that you can easily spend an entire day chasing the fall colors.

In town, Telluride was hosting one of its many yearly festivals. We first went to one of my favorite places in Telluride, Bridal Veil Falls. With the snowpack nearly gone at this point the falls were not very strong, but still going. This enabled me to get into some places you can’t even come close to in spring because of high water levels. Bridal Veil is a magnificent sight and so easily accessed by a road at the end of town, it is a must see anytime I make the trip up to Telluride.

Once I had my fill of waterfall we moved south into town, but before we could even get there I had to stop at yet another amazing fall scene. Running through most of the town is a river that comes from the Bridal Veil Falls, and in Fall it takes on a whole new life. Fall colors line the river as it lazily runs through town. As the water snakes its way through town you are provided a soundtrack of tranquility and peace!
