I have always been mesmerized by the beauty of water.  I have spent countless hours trying to capture the elusive ocean wave.  I find it so difficult to really portray the beauty that is presented.

This week, I had the opportunity to capture the beauty of water during a trip to mountains of North Carolina.

My husband, Randy,  and I traveled to Roan Mountain State Park to capture the sunrise Tuesday.

Sunrise on Round Bald

After hiking down from Round Bald, we stopped to take in the beauty of icicles that had formed on the side of the road.  The icicles looked, to me, like a school of jellyfish.

Jellyfish Icicles

After leaving Roan Mountain State Park, we stopped at Elk River Falls.  My eyes were drawn to an area of cascades just before the falls.

Wintery Waves

Our last stop of our day trip to the mountains was at Bass Lake, located in Blowing Rock, NC.  Much of Bass Lake was beginning to freeze.

Blue Sky and Ice

I was amazed at the geometry of the patterns found in the ice.

Water’s Geometry

I still have not been able to adequately capture what I see and feel when I experience a wave in the ocean.  I was, however, happy with some of my captures of the beauty of water I had the privilege to experience on this December morning.
