During my winter break, I had the opportunity to explore with my camera.  I received a wonderful book, Seeing in Sixes, for Christmas.  Seeing in Sixes is a collection of six image projects edited by Brooks Jensen and Maureen Gallagher.  I think I had this book in my mind as I spent a day walking through the streets of downtown Charleston.

I have spent many trips photographing in Charleston.  This time I was looking for something different to photograph.  When I saw the shadow of ironwork cast upon a tree, my series for the day

began to take form.

The Beginning

The bright, sunny day just was perfect for finding shadows.

Everywhere I looked, there were interesting shadows to photograph.

At the Park

I tried to capture things that make me think of Charleston, SC, like this wheel from one of the tourist carriage rides.

Carriage Ride

Palm and Sidewalk

Curves

So, after driving three hours to Charleston and walking 7.2 miles through the streets of Charleston, I left with a series of seven images of shadows.  I found it so helpful and much more interesting to work on a series of images that day.  I will continue to photograph in this way.

If you are not familiar with the books Seeing in Sixes, I highly recommend them.

Wishing all a very happy and healthy New Year!
