Home is McCall, Idaho. And finally, Spring comes. Well, really it’s been here all along as I was wandering in the lower elevations. It’s just that it was high country style, and took its sweet time. The initial hit of spring around here is called Mud Season. Not much to get excited about, let alone photograph. Hence the travels south. And now I can get up just 20 minutes before sunrise to get the morning images right here at home, instead of 2 hrs.  That means a lot when the sun is coming up at 6:05! (And I am NOT a morning person). I am excited to share the progression of Spring here at my home.

It starts with a teasing hint of green:

And soon the snow disappears from the mountain and melts into unexpected pools below:

The sandhill cranes begin their dance of love, screeching their pre-historic love songs, home at last to their breeding grounds:

Taking a Bow

The delicate Grass Widows are among the first flowers to show themselves, along with the heralding of the Trillium:

And now it’s time to hunt! Morel Mushrooms that is. Now THIS is a treasure! Difficult to see, very wild in the woods, these delicious mushrooms are worth their weight in gold. In fact, restaurants will pay handsomely to put them on their menus. They only show themselves when the ground is still spring-moist and the temps are warm.

Home from my spring lust wanderings, I have a simple home cooked meal of sautéed morels, onions and garlic with wild rice. Now my belly and spirit are sated, full, content. Spring is here at last. Ain’t it grand?
